Participants are responsible for booking their own accommodations, though if you have any problems finding a place to stay, we can offer assistance. Below are some accommodation options recommended by our colleagues in Tbilisi.
Our meeting spot will be at the Writer’s House of Georgia, at 13 Ivane Machabeli St., in the heart of the city, so you may wish to find somewhere to stay nearby.

Fabrika: A Soviet-era sewing factory turned multiuse cultural space, highlights Tbilisi’s urban artists.
This list is non-exhaustive, and we suggest that you do your own research. Hotels are likely to fill up quickly for July, so we advise that you book as early as possible.
Program and scheduling
The opening party will take place on July 15th, the closing party on the 28th. Classes begin on the 16th and finish on the 27th. You may wish to arrive at least one day before the program starts, to orientate yourself, and to adjust to the time zone.

We will arrange for a taxi to pick you up from the airport and take you to where you are staying. Please make sure you have informed the program coordinator of your arrival time in Tbilisi.
In general, taxis are cheap; rides within central districts usually cost $2-3. However, most of the attractions in Tbilisi are walking distance from one another.
Transportation for trips outside of the city (e.g. to Sighnaghi and Batumi) is not included in the overall program costs. To get there, we’ll rent buses for a small fee, and split the costs amongst those who choose to come.
Georgia is known for its food and wine! You’ll be introduced to some of these delicacies at our opening party.
There will be lunch breaks between morning and afternoon sessions. The area around the Writer’s House is home to a number of nice hotels and cafes. We’ll eat out together in groups in the evenings.
The currency in Georgia is the Georgian Lari (GEL). There are 2.46 Lari to $1 US, and 1.81 Lari to $1 CAN.
ATM machines, banks and money-exchange offices are widely available, and all major credit cards are accepted.
As in the rest of Europe, voltage in Georgia is 220v.

We require that you obtain travel insurance before your trip. Many SLS participants go with United Healthcare (formally MEDEX) (www.uhcsafetrip.com) or Patriot (https://purchase.imglobal.com/Quote/patriot/pre-quote?imgac=182036), though please research the best option for you.
We also recommend that you obtain travel insurance that makes flight refundable, in case of any exigencies.
We require that participants sign and bring to Georgia a liability waver form. Forms will be sent to you by the program coordinator in advance of the program.
Fees and payment schedule
The program fee is $1950 USD, which pays for faculty honorariums and location fees, among other built-in costs. Please note that the fees do not include meals, accommodations, and transportation to, from, and within Georgia.
We require a $150 USD deposit (non-refundable) in order to guarantee your space in the program. A second payment of $300 is due by May 15, and the remaining balance of the program fee must be received by June 5, 2018. Any exceptions must be negotiated with the Program Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that unless payments are made on schedule, we cannot guarantee a place in the program.

Fellowships and financial aid
A limited number of need-based fellowships are available. Please submit a short statement of need (2-3 paragraphs) and any supporting documents (optional) to the Program Coordinator at email@example.com. You may also wish to look into other sources of funding.
Policies, cancellations and refunds
SLS will not assume responsibility for participants’ accommodations and travel. We will, however, offer assistance in finding suitable accommodations.
All monies will be refunded in full to students who are not accepted into the program, or, if for any reason, the program is cancelled.
All payments (excluding the deposit) are fully refundable if a participant withdraws from the program voluntarily by June 5, 2018. A cancellation fee of $500 USD will be assessed for any cancellation after June 15, 2018. No refunds will be made once the program starts, regardless of the student’s participation. The effective date of cancellation will be the date that such written notice is received by the Program Coordinator.
